Star Wars News Round-Up: June 2021

Image
Book of Boba Fett is Mando Season 2.5 It was reported by Collider on 10th June that The Book of Boba Fett had finished filming and was being referred to as The Mandalorian Season 2.5, which is logical given that we were previously told that the announced series would all take place within the Mandalorian timeline and would interconnect and build to a conclusion. This followed news on 8th June that The Mandalorian had not yet started filming a third season and in all likelihood not begin until late 2021 or early 2022. This was revealed by Pedro Pascal in conversation with Ewan McGregor for Variety . While it’s a shame we will have to wait so long for a third season, I’m still more excited for that than the Book of Boba, it’s make more sense of Rangers of the New Republic not being in active development and Lucasfilm have plenty on their plate right now with Andor and Obi-Wan Kenobi both still in production. Star Wars Visions first look coming 3rd July On June 16th it was announced that

Vintage Wars #1: Splinter of the Mind’s Eye

Splinter of the Mind’s Eye by Alan Dean Foster (Sphere Books Ltd, 1978) When Splinter of the Mind’s Eye came out in the Spring of 1978 it was one of the first entries into Star Wars lore, following Marvel’s Star Wars comic which had launched in ‘77 and preceding the infamous Holiday Special. Author Alan Dean Foster had previously ghost written the Star Wars novelization but this was his first outing in the Star Wars universe under his own name. This book came out 2 years before The Empire Strikes Back and when Foster wrote this it wasn’t even known there would be a sequel. The story see’s Leia and Luke on their way to try to recruit the planet Circarpous IV when they are forced to crash land on a nearby planet, where they encounter Halla, a strange woman with a force connection who wants their help to find a special crystal in exchange for her help getting off the planet. There are parts of the book that are very dated, especially in it’s attitude to Leia, she’s written quite inconsist

Making My Own Star Wars Patch Shirt

Image
A few months ago I set myself a project of making myself a Star Wars patch shirt, that I could wear to conventions, Star Wars events, and if I ever get the chance to go back to Black Spire Outpost. I was inspired by finding these two Oga’s Cantina patches made by the facebook Galaxy’s Edge group ( here ) and trying to decide what to do with them when they arrived. I decided that I wanted to keep the shirt ‘in-universe’ so I started to look for patches of different insignia seen in the universe, searching on Etsy and Instagram. I found an Alphabet Squadron patch made by Nina’s Patches , a Dexter’s Diner patch from NerdMatters , and 4 patches from Ryloth Relics - Saw’s Partisans, Ohnaka Pirate Gang, The Nite Owls and the Andor logo. I wanted to get a military looking shirt and found a khaki green shirt on sale in H&M. Some of the patches I ordered were sew on, others iron on. The problem there was that we don’t own an iron right now! After a YouTube search I formulated a plan to u

The High Republic: Readers Views

Image
I have loved getting to grips with a different style of Jedi Order, new villains in the Nihil and Drengir and finding out about the state of the Galaxy in this new era of the Star Wars universe. And with the second wave of The High Republic publishing project just around the corner I thought now would be a great time to see what people have been making of this new era so far; It's been amazing so far seeing how the galaxy operated in a time not really explored. Jedi also seem like what they should be guardians of peace and justice not tied to the politics of the Republic. Can't wait for more and more content. Daniel Hales @danalexhales17 (Twitter) Absolutely love it and I really appreciate how clear it is that all the different authors are communicating and workin well together. It feels like a very cohesive era so far. Brandon @brandon.aka.jarjar (instagram) I absolutely love how all the books and comics are connected.  I really enjoy getting small bits and pieces about the tw

The Star Wars Archives 1977-83 Taschen 40th Edition Review

The Star Wars Archives 1977-83 by Paul Duncan (Taschen) Like me you may have had book envy over The Star Wars Archives 1977-83 since it’s release in 2018 but not been able to justify the cost. So imagine my delight when I stumbled across this smaller version in my local bookshop when we came out of lockdown. The Taschen 40th Anniversary edition was published in February this year and costs just twenty pounds, but how does it compare to the original XL version? Where the original is 33 x 48cm and 620 pages, this new edition is 22 x 16cm and 512 pages, so what is missing I hear you cry? Well according Paul Duncan himself, the opening chapter about George Lucas early life has been condensed and added to the Episode IV chapter, some appendices were removed and there are only around 500 images compared to 1,200 in the original.  I say only, but the number and breadth of color plates is stunning, from Ralph McQuarrie concept art and design sketches by the costume and prop departments, to
