Star Wars News Round Up: September 2021

Lego Terrifying Tales Trailer The month’s news kicked off with a trailer for the Disney+ Lego holiday special ‘Terrifying Tales’, which will air on 1st October, view the trailer here . I’m looking forward to Terrifying Tales, Lego animation always delivers something fun and the trailer promises stories involving the Knights of Ren, Nightsisters and a ‘What If Luke joined the Empire’. PS5 Knights of the Old Republic Remake Announced The internet blew up on 9th September when a Knights of the Old Republic remake for the PS5 was revealed at PlayStation Showcase 2021 with a reveal trailer . The KOTOR remake will be a timed exclusive for the PlayStation 5 before coming to other platforms including PC, and be developed by Aspyr (Call of Duty, Borderlands). Knights of the Old Republic is legendary among Star Wars fans, but is a game I missed out on so I’m excited to play an updated version with modern graphics and get to grips with Revan. Now I just need to save up for a PS5! Star Wars Hunte...

Star Wars Visions Review [Spoilers!]

Image
I imagine a lot of reviews might be starting this way, but I’m not a big anime fan, nothing wrong with it but I just haven’t seen much. My experience is limited to a few Studio Ghibli movies, Akira, the first season of One Punch Man and a Hokusai biopic on Netflix, I am a fan of Japanese culture though and love Akira Kurosawa, the aforementioned Hokusai and Japanese folklore. So my excitement for the series, especially given the inspiration George Lucas took from Japan, was high and rose even higher following the trailers. So here is my episode-by-episode review of the anthology series which was released yesterday. Ep1: The Duel I was excited for this episode from the art style we saw in the trailer and it did not disappoint. I really loved the aesthetics which looked like a black and white Kurosawa epic complete with graininess crossed with a Hokusai painting. The inventiveness of the classic Star Wars designs of stormtroopers, aliens and droids brought into the samurai era was perfec...

Tempest Runner Review [Spoilers!]

Image
Tempest Runner Audio Drama by Cavan Scott This was my first Star Wars audio drama experience (thank you Audible free trial!), and I really enjoyed having a new Star War story in a different medium. The sound effects, music and voice cast really brought the story to life, compared to where I have struggled with audiobooks in the past. The only drawback I found was it could be somewhat difficult to remember who new characters were, as their names were repeated less than in a written book. Tempest Runner is the story of what happens to Lourna Dee after the events of The Rising Storm, and tells her backstory through flashbacks from various points in her life,   and Lourna is now my low key crush of the High Republic era! Lourna is captured following an attack on a communications outpost, but is able to deceive her Jedi captors calling herself Sal Krost. Through flashbacks we learn that she is the daughter of a privileged Twi’lek family, tricked into betraying her family and sold into s...

Marvel High Republic Issues 7-9 Review [Spoilers]

Image
Welcome to a new style of review for comics, let me know what you think. In Issues 7 through 9 of the Marvel High Republic series by Cavan Scott we get the end of the first arc and the start of the second, with the focus switching from the Drengir to the Nihil, and Keeve Trennis tested further still. Issue 7 Writer: Cavan Scott    Art: P. Noto, G. Jeanty, K. Story, A. Leoni After the events of issue 6 I expected that we would be going to the Drengir home world in this chapter, and 7 really seems to slow the pace of the story down. Instead we focus on Keeve who is suffering from the after effects of her connection to the Drengir. When she meditates she has visions of them and a Sith - Darth Krall, which begs the question why? Could he have something to do with the creation of the    Drengir or their defeat? Could he be one of the lost twenty? It’s certainly a mystery that is not answered at this moment in time. Keeve is fighting the Nihil on Chortose, an agricultural ...

Out of the Shadows Review [Spoilers!]

Image
Out of the Shadows by Justina Ireland (Disney Lucasfilm Press) I’ve honestly been struggling with how to start this review    of Out of the Shadows other than to say that this may be my favorite book of the High Republic era so far. The second Young Adult book in the High Republic project is written by Justina Ireland, and the story brings together characters from the first YA book in Reath Silas, Cohmac Vitus and Nan, and characters from Ireland’s A Test of Courage in Vernestra Rwoh and Imri Canteros. The story takes place several months after the events of the Galactic Fair on Valo and centres on Syl, a hauler formerly of the Byne guild who recently lost her ship and her mother in a Nihil attack when her ship was mysteriously pulled out of hyperspace in the Berenge sector. Together with Xylan Graf a wealthy businessman and the Jedi Cohmac, Reath, Vernestra and Imri she sets out to find out what happened. The story is a slow burn but that is just fine with me, especially as a...

Star Wars News Round Up: August 2021

Lego Star Wars Terrifying Tales Announced On 3rd August the Lego Star Wars Terrifying Tales special was announced, coming to Disney+ on 1st October in time for the Halloween season. The description on Star Wars dot com - here - outlines the plot as Poe & BB-8 being forced to land on Mustafar, where they meet a Hutt turning Vader’s Castle into a Sith themed hotel. The premise sounds hilarious and I really enjoyed the Lego Holiday Special that came out last year, Lego always delivers fun Star Wars. Galactic Starcruiser Prices & Trailer Revealed   A new trailer and prices and sample itinerary for the Galactic Starcruiser hotel at Walt DisneyWorld, Florida were released on 4th August to much outcry from the internet over the expense. Whilst the prices are steep, they are about what I was expecting, and to be honest not that much more than some of the more expensive hotels on property. Whilst I don’t expect to ever be able to afford to go, if I could I would go in a sho...
