High Republic #3 & High Republic Adventures #1 Review
Marvel High Republic #3 by Cavan Scott
Art by A. Anindito, M. Morales & A. Leoni
Issue three of Cavan Scott’s High Republic picks right up where the previous issue left off both in terms of tension and the Horror atmosphere. Sskeer continues to be unbalanced by his trauma treating Terec with aggression and a lack of empathy, failing to sense that it is the dark side that has infected him, which later must be why the afflicted Terec is able to infect him, with Drengir spores.
We see the first instance of the newly appointed Marshal of Starlight Beacon, Avar Kriss, being at odds with the Jedi Order’s structure, when she is less than pleased that Maru has contacted the council about the dead Hutt, it will be interesting to see this develop. Does she have doubts about the Jedi Council or a more personal problem with Maru?
The vines in the underground tunnels on Sedri Minor are very reminiscent of Horror Sci-fi like Stranger Things or Day of the Triffids, which is appropriate as now we meet the Drengir for the first time, sentient plants surrounded by the Dark Side that crave meat, I feel they could be a great addition to Star Wars and want to know more about their connection to the dark side of the force. At this point Avar Kriss comes in like a badass to save Keeve, Bartol and the still alive Ceret, in another incredible panel.
The issue ends with the cliff hanger of an infected Sskeer being controlled by the Drengir ready to take on the three Jedi, the Trandoshan is one one of my favorite characters in the High Republic thus far and he has already lost an arm, his friend Jora Malli and now this! This violence against Sskeer must end!

IDW The High Republic Adventures #1 By Daniel Josรฉ Older
Art by H. Tolibao, R. Nalty & J. Wood
I finally managed to get my hands on the first issue of IDW’s High Republic Adventures which like the other Star Wars Adventures comics is aimed at younger readers, written by First Shot author Daniel Josรฉ Older it was still a lot of fun.
The set up is that a class of padawans with Masters Yoda and Torban Buck are on a Padawan Academic Cruiser, when an emergence happens and they are called upon to rescue beings from the planet Trymant IV from the falling debris and young human padawan Lula Talisola is our main protagonist. On the planet the community are believers in the force but are against people using the force, but one girl, Zeen Mrala has kept her force sensitivity a secret. At the same time as the Jedi arrive, the Nihil do too, here to seemingly rescue the City’s leader Elder Tromak, Lula and two other Padawans try to commandeer the Nihil ship, but have to help Zeen save the city from a huge piece of debris, they get surrounded by Nihil and what appears to be Marchion Ro appears.
I thought for a first issue the story was surprisingly action packed yet still introduced us to the key characters leaving more to meet later and setting up some very interesting questions, like why the people of Bralanak City are against force use? Why are the Nihil here to rescue Elder Tromak, and the addition of Marchion Ro at the end adds a lot of tension.
