My Top 31 Star Wars Characters

For the month of January I have been counting down my top 31 favourite Star Wars characters on Twitter daily, as well as on Instagram stories  (@thelimeyprintmaker) where I added a song each day.

This list represents a moment in time, if you asked me to make another top 31 again now, it would almost certainly be different, for starters I totally forgot Hondo Ohnaka and he should have been on this list!

 31 - CARSON TEVA

The first entry as I count down my top 31 SW characters is the New Republic pilot we met in s2 of the Mandalorian. Of course it helps that Paul Sun-Hyung Lee is such a huge fan and cool dude, I hope we get more Carson.

Song: The Joker - Steve Miller Band

30 - CHIRRUT IMWE

It was fascinating to see a non-jedi force believer on screen, and he is responsible for one of my favorite quotes in all SW. I’d love to see him show up in animation.

Song: As Serious As Your Life - Four Tet

29 - CAL KESTIS

I didn’t get to play Jedi: Fallen Order until this autumn, a great story with a great protagonist recovering from the trauma of order 66 and refinding himself.

Song: Lonely Boy - The Black Keys

28 - VI MORADI

Vi is a Resistance spy on Batuu, building a resistance base just outside of Black Spire Outpost. She’s always recruiting and you can help her take on the First Order like I did when I met her outside Oga’s Cantina.

Song: French Disko - Stereolab

27 - LANDO CALRISSIAN

The smoothest scoundrel in the galaxy, with the greatest cape collection, and a heart of gold. Really hope we get both Billy Dee and Donald Glover in the disney+ series.

Song: Smooth Criminal - Michael Jackson

26 - C-3PO

I loved C-3PO as kid, I think I saw a lot of myself in him, that faded a lot when I got to my teens. These days I have real affection for him again,  his role in Rise of Skywalker was perfect and Anthony Daniels is a treasure.

Song: Gold - Spandau Ballet

25 - GRAND ADMIRAL THRAWN

It was a big moment when Thrawn was revealed in the Rebels s3 trailer, a master of strategy and student of art he’s a villain unlike many others. Now he’s coming to live action and I can’t wait.

Song: Blue Monday - New Order

24 - POE DAMERON

That’s one hell of a pilot! Who doesn’t love an X-Wing pilot? I love his development in the Resistance Reborn book, and the reverance he holds Leia in.

Song: Rocket Fuel - DJ Shadow ft De La Soul

23 - TEMMIN “SNAP” WEXLEY

Poe’s wingmate, Snap only had a small part in the movies but was one of the main focus’ of the Aftermath books, son of Rebel pilot, owner of a crazy battle droid & future stepson of Wedge. He could come back right?

Song: The Power - SNAP!

22 - HERA SYNDULLA

The run of pilots continues with Rebels’ Hera, the best (non-force user) pilot around with a ship equally as cool as the Falcon and the 2nd best romance in SW.

Song: Ghost Ship - Blur

21 - GROGU (AKA BABY YODA)

The little guy loves food and taking a nap, just don’t come at his dad! I thought they did a great job giving him character in season 2 considering he doesn’t speak.

Song: I Want An Alien For Christmas - Fountains of Wayne

20 - CHOPPER (C1-10P)

He swears like a trooper, doesn’t take any crap and loves a practical joke, just don’t stand between him and a new support strut. He can also be surprisingly sweet when he wants, like when he held Hera’s hand.

Song: Beat On The Brat - Ramones

19 - SABINE WREN

Of course I’m a big fan of the Star Wars ARTIST, doesn’t hurt that’s she’s a Mandalorian badass and has the 2nd best arc in Rebels. I hope we get her in live action AND a fitting end of her story in animation.

Song: Rebel Girl - Bikini Kill

18 - MAX REBO

My favorite blue boy, the greatest musician in the galaxy. Everyone has their weird Star Wars background character and he’s mine. Max Rebo Jams.

Song: Renegades Of Funk - Rage Against The Machine

17 - DIN DJARIN

In season one we found a cool looking bounty Hunter with a strict code, and we’ve seen Din grow, have his beliefs challenged and form a bond with Grogu, I can’t wait to see what he does next.

Song: Iron Man - Four Tet

16 - CAPTAIN REX

CT-7567, Rex to his friends was the trooper that made me love the clones, and it was his appearance in Rebels that cemented his place among my favorite characters. I hope we get to see him in one of the live action shows.

Song: Clones - Akira The Don

15 - DARTH MAUL

One of the most hyped characters that we all thought was gone, one and done, shocked us all by coming back in Clone Wars and becoming a fan favorite with a great (and tragic) story and a fantastic end in Rebels.

Song: Helter Skelter - The Beatles

14 - BO-KATAN KRYZE

2020 was the year Bo-Katan went from cool to top tier. When we first met her in TCW she was an enemy, but became an ally. Now will she turn antagonist again with Din holding the Darksaber? I hope not!

Song: Bad Reputation - Joan Jett

13 - R2-D2

Artoo is everyone’s favorite as a kid right? A veteran of 3 wars and C-3PO’s sassy bestie, he’s seen more than any other SW character and made us laugh along the way.

Song: Robot Rock - Daft Punk

12 - KANAN JARRUS

A survivor of Order 66 young Caleb Dume had to find his own path to knighthood, and when he got there he became one of my favorite Jedi, and his relationship with Hera is easily my most treasured in SW.

Song: Survivor - Destiny’s Child

11 - SHEEV PALPATINE

The man with the master plan, I love that we just accept that he’s pure evil without the need for explanation, of course he found a way back, that’s what he does, plan. Ian McDiarmid’s portrayal makes the character.

Song: Psycho Killer - Talking Heads

10 - YODA

THE Grand Master, Yoda has taught us many lessons, the most important imho is the lesson he teaches Luke about failure. He’s also a cantankerous old sod which is another reason to love him.

Song: Danny Nedelko - Idles

9 - REY SKYWALKER

Rey the scavenger from Jakku eventually found her true family, those who supported her & believed in her and proved you are more than your genes. Her impact can be seen at any Star Wars convention in all the young fans.

Song: Vagabond - Wolfmother

8 - ANAKIN SKYWALKER/DARTH VADER

The former hero of the Clone Wars trapped by his pain and fear until his son offered him a way out.

Song: Fell In Love With A Girl - The White Stripes

7 - HAN SOLO

Qi’ra was right when she said he was the good guy not an outlaw. No matter how hard he tries to be the scoundrel, he cares too much. Chewie wouldn’t be his bestie if this wasn’t the case.

Song: C.R.E.A.M. - Wu-Tang Clan

6 - LUKE SKYWALKER

Everybody loves Luke right? The farm boy that blew up the Deathstar and saved his father. I would like some more Luke perhaps in a game or animated show, finding those Jedi texts and setting up his academy.

Song: Here Comes the Sun - The Beatles

5 - CHEWBACCA

Everybody wants a Chewie for a best friend and co-pilot, there’s a reason he’s still alive in canon and you can find him in 2 places in both West & East coast Disney parks.

Song: Cut Your Hair - Pavement

4 - KYLO REN / BEN SOLO

We’ve all felt that rage at some point, I love the way he wavers to the light and is emotional, and the sacrifice he makes to allow Rey to live really resonates with me. Of course it helps that Driver is so good.

Song: The Feeling Of Being Alive - Andrew WK

3 - AHSOKA TANO

From the Mortis Arc to Leaving the Order, the Siege of Mandalore to the events of Twilight of the Apprentice, Ahsoka probably has THE best story in SW. And now she’s in live action!

Song: A Girl Like You - Edwyn Collins

2 - LEIA ORGANA

Daughter. Princess. Senator. Rebel. General. Sister. Wife. Jedi. Mother. Master. Carrie. To me she’s a true hero.

Song: Run The World (Girls) - Beyoncé

1 - OBI-WAN KENOBI

He’s by no means perfect but despite losing everything - his master, his love, his brother in arms and his way of life, he remains dedicated and steadfast. He’s also low key hilarious and I can’t wait Ewan to return.

Song: GMF - John Grant
